Summary

Mate / First Mate – 95’ Private Motor Yacht

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mate / First Mate to join a 95’ private motor yacht with an exciting itinerary. This is a private-use only program (not charter or party-oriented) offering a stable, professional, and rewarding environment for the right candidate.

The owner values professionalism, safety, and a positive onboard culture, and is looking for a Mate with extensive Mediterranean cruising experience, strong watchkeeping skills, and a flexible, solutions-oriented approach to supporting the Captain and crew.

Program & Exciting Itinerary

  • Late January: Vessel relocates to Puerto Rico to pick up guests and cruise through the Caribbean islands
  • Mid-March: Yacht scheduled to be shipped to Italy
  • Summer Season: Extensive Mediterranean cruising, with a mix of time at anchor and in port. The owner enjoys exploring ashore, local culture, and destinations just as much as time at sea
  • Post-Mediterranean Season: Plans to explore less-traveled areas, including London and the Baltic Sea

The owner prefers a flexible approach to itineraries. While planning and confidence are essential, the Mate should be comfortable with dynamic changes, for example, extending a stay in a favorite town if the owner wishes.

Owner Usage & Crew Culture

  • Private use only, not a party boat
  • Maximum 6 guests at a time, onboard for no longer than one month per stay
  • Focus on work-life balance and creating a family-style, professional crew environment
  • Hands-on role supporting both the Captain and the guests

Key Responsibilities

  • Primary watchkeeping duties, including day and night watches
  • Confident execution of bridge responsibilities during coastal and offshore passages
  • Active involvement in passage planning and navigational decision-making
  • Assisting the Captain with docking, anchoring, tender operations, and close-quarters maneuvering
  • Deck operations, maintenance, and safety equipment upkeep
  • Assisting with safety drills, procedures, and onboard documentation
  • Supporting a high standard of vessel presentation
  • Professional guest interaction when required, balancing friendliness with discretion

Requirements

  • Yachtmaster Offshore (or higher) or USCG 100-Ton license (or equivalent)
  • Proven watchkeeping experience on vessels of similar size (essential)
  • Strong Mediterranean cruising experience (essential)
  • Knowledge of passage planning, navigation, and bridge operations
  • Confident in close-quarters maneuvering and docking
  • Solid deck maintenance and safety skills
  • Ability to work as part of a small, professional crew
  • Comfortable interacting with guests in a professional manner
  • Valid STCWENG1 (or equivalent), and clean background

Position Details

  • Private vessel (non-charter)
  • Mediterranean summers / Caribbean winters
  • Hands-on role with real bridge and watchkeeping responsibility
  • Professional owners and a supportive, well-run program
  • Full-time contract
  • Start date: ASAP – vessel departing for Caribbean at end of this month

This position is ideal for a career Mate seeking a long-term, professional, private program with exciting seasonal itineraries, hands-on responsibilities, and a positive, family-style onboard culture.
