Mate / First Mate – 95’ Private Motor Yacht
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mate / First Mate to join a 95’ private motor yacht with an exciting itinerary. This is a private-use only program (not charter or party-oriented) offering a stable, professional, and rewarding environment for the right candidate.
The owner values professionalism, safety, and a positive onboard culture, and is looking for a Mate with extensive Mediterranean cruising experience, strong watchkeeping skills, and a flexible, solutions-oriented approach to supporting the Captain and crew.
Program & Exciting Itinerary
- Late January: Vessel relocates to Puerto Rico to pick up guests and cruise through the Caribbean islands
- Mid-March: Yacht scheduled to be shipped to Italy
- Summer Season: Extensive Mediterranean cruising, with a mix of time at anchor and in port. The owner enjoys exploring ashore, local culture, and destinations just as much as time at sea
- Post-Mediterranean Season: Plans to explore less-traveled areas, including London and the Baltic Sea
The owner prefers a flexible approach to itineraries. While planning and confidence are essential, the Mate should be comfortable with dynamic changes, for example, extending a stay in a favorite town if the owner wishes.
Owner Usage & Crew Culture
- Private use only, not a party boat
- Maximum 6 guests at a time, onboard for no longer than one month per stay
- Focus on work-life balance and creating a family-style, professional crew environment
- Hands-on role supporting both the Captain and the guests
Key Responsibilities
- Primary watchkeeping duties, including day and night watches
- Confident execution of bridge responsibilities during coastal and offshore passages
- Active involvement in passage planning and navigational decision-making
- Assisting the Captain with docking, anchoring, tender operations, and close-quarters maneuvering
- Deck operations, maintenance, and safety equipment upkeep
- Assisting with safety drills, procedures, and onboard documentation
- Supporting a high standard of vessel presentation
- Professional guest interaction when required, balancing friendliness with discretion
Requirements
- Yachtmaster Offshore (or higher) or USCG 100-Ton license (or equivalent)
- Proven watchkeeping experience on vessels of similar size (essential)
- Strong Mediterranean cruising experience (essential)
- Knowledge of passage planning, navigation, and bridge operations
- Confident in close-quarters maneuvering and docking
- Solid deck maintenance and safety skills
- Ability to work as part of a small, professional crew
- Comfortable interacting with guests in a professional manner
- Valid STCW, ENG1 (or equivalent), and clean background
