Experience and attributes required:
• Candidate should demonstrate a proven background in marine engineering and either worked previously as a small boat-yard mechanic, motorman/fitter, service engineer for a diesel engine manufacturer or even 4th or 3rd engineer on commercial vessels.
• Candidate will need to be multi-skilled and capable of working autonomously on small engines and simple 12/24v electrical systems. Will be familiar with the layout of a commercial engine room and capable of carrying out basic servicing and repair tasks on Diesel engines, gasoline engines/outboards, pumps and compressors.
Qualifications required:
• Some form of formal training as a mechanic, ideally through the MCA or RYA, such as AEC (1 or 2). RYA diesel engine course or a similar level professional engineering course. STCW (fully updated)
• Seafarer Medical Certificate
• Seafarer's Medical Certificate valid for at least 6 months
