Overview
M/Y is seeking an experienced, professional Mate / Chief Officer to join a stable, well-run private 120’ program. The yacht operates with 5 full-time crew and is based year-round in Baker’s Bay, with high but manageable owner usage.
The owner is onboard alone 90% of the time, usually for 1–2 months at a stretch. The program is consistent and structured, making this role ideal for someone who enjoys a predictable, steady pace, long passages, and hands-on mentorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Mentor, train, and manage the deckhand / deck / engineer team
- Oversee daily deck operations, maintenance, and safety procedures
- Assist the captain with navigation, passage planning, and vessel operations
- Support yacht systems management alongside the engineer as required
- Maintain deck inventory, equipment, and provisioning for ongoing trips
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and flag regulations
- Act as the primary point of contact for dockside operations when needed.
- Handle, drive and train deckhand to handle and drive the 41ft Valhalla tender.
Role Requirements
- Minimum 2–3 years yachting experience as Mate/Chief Officer or senior deck role
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills
- Knowledge of vessel operations, deck systems, and safety protocols
- Calm, professional demeanor, especially during long passages
- All certifications up to date (STCW, ENG1, etc.)
- Salary: DOE
Additional Notes
- The yacht returns to the U.S. periodically for provisioning and maintenance between owner trips
- Crew enjoy access to marina facilities such as pool, jacuzzi, and gym
- Start date is ASAP, allowing the new Mate to integrate and oversee operations before the next owner visit
- Program involves predictable routines with occasional long passages and Med Summer 2026 deployment on its own bottom.
