Permanent Sole Engineer
Location: Fort Lauderdale (currently in yard period)
Program: Private yacht | Live aboard | Quiet, professional program
We are seeking a highly capable, hands-on Sole Engineer for a maintenance-intensive private yacht. This position suits a self-sufficient engineer with strong mechanical, electrical, and electronic skills who is confident taking full ownership of the vessel’s engineering operations.
This is a true working engineer role, not a monitoring position. The successful candidate will be proactive, practical, and comfortable diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining systems independently.
The Captain is technically knowledgeable and currently involved in engineering work; however, the incoming Engineer must be fully confident leading daily engineering operations, maintenance planning, and troubleshooting across all onboard systems.
Program Overview
- Based primarily in Baker’s Bay
- Periodic trips to South Florida for provisioning and yard periods
- Currently in Fort Lauderdale for yard period
- Atlantic crossing to the Mediterranean
Key Responsibilities
- Full responsibility for all engineering systems as Sole Engineer
- Daily operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of:
- Main engines
- Generators
- Mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems
- Planned maintenance and fault-finding during yard periods
- Hands-on repairs and system optimization
- Clear communication with Captain regarding technical status and priorities
Required Experience & Skills
- Strong hands-on engineering background with broad technical knowledge
- Proven experience operating independently as a Sole Engineer
- Solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems
- Kohler generator experience required
- MAN main engine experience required
- Experience with Italian-built yachts a strong plus
- Mediterranean cruising a plus
