Summary

We are seeking a practical, hands-on Deck Engineer to join the build team of a 56-meter sailing yacht currently under construction. The role offers the unique opportunity to be involved in the new build phase and transition into a permanent operational role post-delivery.

The Deck / 2nd Engineer will work primarily on deck under the 1st Officer, while also providing essential support to the Chief Engineer in maintaining the vessel’s systems. This is an ideal position for someone who enjoys varied, hands-on work across deck operations and engineering, with strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach.

Key Requirements:

• Minimum AEC (Approved Engine Course) or equivalent

• Valid STCW certification (including medical)

• Previous experience as Deckhand/Engineer on sailing or motor yachts 

• Strong practical skills in basic engineering maintenance and troubleshooting

• Solid seamanship, sail-handling, and deck maintenance ability

• Comfortable standing engineering watches as required

• Fluent in English (spoken and written)


New Build Responsibilities:

• Assist the Chief Engineer with day-to-day shipyard supervision, inspections, and systems commissioning

• Support engineering equipment installation, testing, and documentation

• Participate in the setup and organization of engineering stores, tools, and spares

• Help with inventory management of deck and engineering owner-supplied items


Operational Role:

• Fully hands-on with deck operations under the 1st Officer (sail handling, mooring, anchoring, daily maintenance)

• Support the Chief Engineer with planned maintenance

• Stand engineering watches as required at sea

• Help manage tender operations, watertoys, and guest services as part of the deck team

• Participate in sail training, safety drills, and onboard maintenance routines
