Summary
CAPTAIN/ENGINEER NEEDED
PRIVATE – Captain/Engineer Opportunity | 2024 Swan 55 | US & Caribbean
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Captain/Engineer to join the owners of a 2024 Swan 55 for a private cruising program in the US and Caribbean.
As the yacht is US-flagged, applicants must be either US citizens or hold the legal right to work for a US company. The position will formally commence in February, when the yacht arrives in Fort Lauderdale after being shipped from Europe. For candidates currently based in Europe, there is the option to participate earlier by visiting the Swan shipyard in Badalona, Spain, where the yacht is completing warranty work. This would include involvement in sea trials, recommissioning, and familiarisation with the vessel. If this is not feasible, the role will begin upon the yacht’s arrival in the US, assisting with the offload and preparations for the season ahead.
This position is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in sailing and yacht maintenance—perhaps a natural progression for someone currently captaining smaller yachts or an experienced First Mate on larger vessels seeking their first command. The successful candidate will be a hands-on team player, personable yet professional, with excellent organizational and engineering skills, and a genuine passion for sailing.
The yacht’s owners are long term Swan owners and enthusiastic sailors who enjoy being actively involved on board. They typically cruise as a couple and occasionally welcome friends or family for short visits. The itinerary will focus primarily on private cruising, with occasional light regatta participation such as BVI Race Week for enjoyment.
Requirements:
Yachtmaster Offshore or USCG 100ton for insurance requirements
AEC 1 and 2 or proven engineering experience.
Ocean sailing and watchkeeping experience
Non smoker/vaper
Owners rarely drink alcohol so will prefer a crew that can abstain.
