Chief ETO (CETO)
Salary : EUR 6000 to EUR 12000 Per Month
The Chief ETO (CETO) is a senior technical specialist responsible for overseeing all electrical, electronic, and IT systems on board a yacht. As a critical member of the engineering team, the Chief ETO ensures that all onboard systems function efficiently, covering navigation equipment, communication systems, entertainment technology, power management, and automation controls.
Working closely with the Chief Engineer, the Chief ETO plays a pivotal role in diagnosing technical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and managing software and hardware upgrades. The role requires a deep understanding of marine electrical systems, high-voltage power distribution, and state-of-the-art yacht technology, ensuring uninterrupted operations for both crew and guests.
Beyond technical duties, the Chief ETO may also train and supervise junior electrical officers, liaise with equipment manufacturers, and oversee refit projects involving electrical and AV/IT system installations. The ability to troubleshoot under pressure and quickly adapt to evolving technological requirements is essential in this role.

Qualifications, training and skills required
- Electrical Engineering Degree or Marine Electronics Certification
- ETC or STCW III/6 Certification (depending on vessel size and requirements)
- Marine Power Systems Expertise: High-voltage distribution, power management, and energy efficiency systems
- Navigation & Communication Systems Knowledge: Radar, ECDIS, VSAT, satellite communications, and GMDSS equipment
- IT and AV Systems Management: Onboard internet, networking, IPTV, and entertainment system maintenance
- Troubleshooting & Repair: Rapid fault diagnosis and repair of complex electrical systems
- Leadership & Teamwork: Ability to train junior ETOs and work closely with engineering teams
- Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of maritime electrical safety standards and classification society regulations
- ETO Certificate of Competency (CoC)
