Summary
We are looking for a sharp, career-minded 2nd Officer to join our 70m private program. This position is ideal for a candidate with a solid deck background who has recently moved into the officer ranks and is looking to focus on improving their bridge and navigation experience and knowledge.
The role is structured as a 60/40 split:
- 60% Bridge & Administration: Dedicated time for navigational passage planning, safety compliance, and bridge watchkeeping.
- 40% Deck & Operations: Supporting the deck team/ Bosun during guest trips, lead tender driving, and mooring stations.
This is a professional, junior officer seat designed for someone who wants to master the bridge under the mentorship of an experienced Captain and Chief Officer, while still being a highly capable hand on deck.
Key Responsibilities
Bridge, Navigation & Safety (60%)
- Navigational Growth: Leading passage planning under the supervision of the Chief Officer; ensuring all digital charts and publications are corrected and up to date.
- Watchkeeping: Maintaining a high standard of situational awareness during coastal and ocean passages.
- Safety Officer Support: Managing the ship’s safety equipment, fire-fighting appliances (FFA), and life-saving appliances (LSA).
- Compliance: Assisting with ISM/ISPS documentation and helping coordinate monthly crew drills.
Deck & Operations (40%)
- Lead Operations: Stepping onto deck during "all hands" moments—arrivals, departures, and anchorages.
- Expert Tender Driving: Operation of twin-screw and jet drives is essential. Assisting with launching and recovery.
- Deck Mentorship: Leading the deckhands when the bosun is not on hand by example in maintenance and detailing, ensuring high standards are maintained without needing constant supervision.
- Inventory: Assisting the bosun in the management of deck stores and spare parts.
What We’re Looking For
- Qualifications: Valid OOW 3000 GT (CoC)
- Documents: STCW (updated), ENG1, GMDSS, and a B1/B2 Visa in hand.
- Experience: Previous experience as a Bosun on 50m+ vessels. We want someone who knows how the deck should look, so they can provide direction when needed.
- Tech Savvy: Proficient with Transas/Wärtsilä ECDIS and familiar with maintenance software (Idea, Plan Maintenance, etc.). This is
- Attributes: A professional "officer" mindset with a "deckhand" work-ethic. You should be as comfortable presenting a passage plan to the Captain as you are docking a 10m tender in a crosswind.
- Appearance: Non-smoker, clean-cut, and well-presented.
The Package
- Salary: Competitive Industry Standard (DOE).
- Rotation: 3 months on / 1 month off.
