Summary

COUPLES POSITION: seeking fun, sociable captain/engineer and cook/stew for 55-foot sailing catamaran. Med based, currently in Barcelona.

The owners (Matt and Sarah – not sir or madam) want experiences and memories, with laughs, stories, and a healthy dose of fun.

THE GUESTS

This is a fun boat for family and friends, with crew a big part of that experience. The days might be long, but these are guests you will enjoy spending time with.

Compatibility is key - most guests are Brits in their 50's. Their adult offspring sometimes join too. Conversations will cover life, love, travel, art, music, business, books, movies, and a million other things. Stories, jokes and good-natured teasing are welcome. Expect genuine hugs. There might be singing and dancing. There will be wine.

THE CREW

Compatible characteristics aside, the captain needs to be 50% engineer. The boat is from 2021 and has about that many quirks. You do need some sailing skills but will mostly be motoring. It’s a cruising catamaran, so you won’t be setting speed records or pointing deep into the wind anyway.

Food is family style, simple and (mostly) healthy. The boss makes his own coffee and pours his own wine (he'll pour yours too when you're not looking.) No silver service, no Michelin stars. They enjoy eating at restaurants, but there will still be plenty of cooking on board. The cook/stew also needs to be comfortable on deck - anchoring, tender driving, taking watches.

THE BOAT

Knysna 550 sailing catamaran. UK registered. Private. Well equipped, spacious, and comfortable.

POTENTIAL DOWNSIDES (or upsides, depending on your perspective)

Summers are long and mostly on anchor.

The boat can be needy, hence the captain needing engineering skills.

Owners will make short visits in winter, to visit restaurants and escape the UK weather. While relaxed and fun, visits can interfere with getting jobs done.

The cook/stew role will be part time over winter.

CLEAR UPSIDES

Freedom and encouragement to be yourself.

A long-term opportunity with a 'forever family.'

Fabulous, generous owners and guests.

Flexibility with salary and leave.

Possibility for some-kind-of-rotation with Emma and I. (We purchased a real estate project before they bought the boat and need to focus on that. We’ve been here 3.5 years, so know the boat well. Either way we will support your transition and ongoing roles.)

Living in a guest cabin with a king size bed and private bathroom.

Outdoor showers and nudie swims when the guests are away (let’s be honest, it’s a nice perk.) Optional, but recommended.
