Companion (Dementia Care) – Swiss Based with International Travel
Location: Switzerland (Verbier base) with extensive international travel (including Mediterranean yacht travel)
Start Date: Mid-March (flexible)
Contract Type: Contractor
Compensation: Approx. €400-450 per day (open depending on experience)
Rotation: 10 days on / 2 weeks rotation (team of 3)
Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Companion to support a Principal with progressing dementia. The role is part of a newly structured care team and requires a calm, composed and emotionally resilient individual with extensive experience in dementia and Alzheimer’s care.
The Principal’s condition is progressing rapidly, with fluctuating cognitive and emotional states. The right candidate will be mentally strong, peaceful in their own mindset, and confident in managing complex behavioural dynamics with discretion and composure.
This is a Swiss-based role (Verbier) with frequent travel, including Mediterranean yacht itineraries and international destinations.
The Team Structure
- 3 trained carers currently in place
- 1 Head of Companion to remain
- 2–3 additional carers to strengthen and complete the team
- Rotational structure to ensure continuity and consistency of care
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-level companionship and emotional stability
- Support Principal through dementia progression and behavioural fluctuations
- Work closely with trained carers and wider household team
- Maintain calm, structured daily routines
- Travel internationally, including extended periods on yacht itineraries
- Drive confidently in foreign countries (any side of the road, various vehicle types)
- Ensure Principal’s safety and wellbeing following recent fall and rib injury
- Maintain discretion, professionalism and consistency at all times
Candidate Profile
- Extensive experience in dementia / Alzheimer’s care
- Strong personality with emotional resilience and steadiness
- Naturally composed, calm and grounded
- Confident managing “ups and downs” associated with dementia
- Native English speaker
- Must be confident driving worldwide on different road sides and for long-hours.
- Active and physically capable
- Ideally no dependent children due to rotation and travel
- Well presented and polished
- Culturally adaptable and confident in VIP environments
- Comfortable with reduced conversational engagement as dementia progresses
- Discreet, loyal and committed long term
- Able to hold eloquent conversations discussing various topics
