Summary
Full time Captain sought for yacht based in Guernsey (Channel Islands). The Captain and crew must be based in Guernsey during the season. The responsibilities include all aspects of managing, using and maintaining the yacht.
The Motor Yacht is used privately by the owner and family members, and their guests throughout the summer season from April to October. It makes regular trips to other Channel Islands and the Normandy Coast. It is also used for trips of a week or longer which are further afield to the UK and down to Spain/Portugal.
The Captain is responsible for all aspects of organising and planning the trips. The boat crew usually consists of the captain and one deckhand. The deckhand also undertakes guest hospitality activities when not underway. The owner is open to employing a couple who could provide both roles.
The Motor Yacht has spent recent winters in Poole undergoing warranty and maintenance work which is overseen by the skipper.
Requirements
- Strong safety awareness and record.
- High level of qualifications and suitable skipper experience.
- Experience of navigation and skippering in conditions similar to those in the English Channel / Channel Islands including large tidal ranges.
- Good practical technical ability and ability to manage the maintenance of the yacht and keep it in first class condition.
- Strong presentation and communication skills with confidence in guest-facing service.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Ability to manage the finances of the yacht (budgeting and managing the yacht in a cost-conscious conscious manner).
- Experience of dealing with customs and entry requirements in European ports
