JOB DESCRIPTION Skipper
We are looking for an experienced skipper who is based in Mallorca for a 70ft custom built wooden sloop sailing yacht, similar to a Hook Design. The yacht is based in Mallorca and primarily focussed on private charter. The yacht caters for 6 guests, in 3 cabins with 3 en suite bath rooms and 2 crew with a separate crew cabin. We only do full week charter and 3 day, long weekend charters.
Role:
The role of the skipper encompasses all aspects of managing a sailing yacht of similar size. This includes, besides the most important point of making our clients happy, the operation of the yacht, keeping all systems up to date, doing the maintenance, managing 3rd party stakeholders, working in a team, selecting and managing the second crew bus as well managing the administrative work, related to the operation of a commercial sailing yacht.
Responsibilities:
The responsibilities include to host guests and manage client experiences on a regular basis. Our clients do charter with us as they have some sailing knowledge but mainly want to enjoy a luxury sailing experience. Your main responsibility will be around sailing and building exciting programs for our clients. As our clients will be hosted for multiple days from you and our hostess/chef your working hours vary to the needs of our clients.
You are working hand in hand with our chef/stew and have to supervise the activities. - Ideally, based on your past experience, you are the one who is hiring the temporary 2nd crew for the season who mainly focus on spoiling our clients in a beautiful boat, but also can help you during sailing, anchoring and berthing.
As an experienced skipper you have proven experiences to manage difficult and unexpected issues which either relate to the yacht or medical emergencies.
Personality:
You are an experienced skipper with a broad knowledge around sailing but as well very thorough in managing the systems of the yacht. You are an open and very honest person who likes to engage with clients and owners, but you never cross the line. As a very reliable professional, you have proven that you are very well organized and have applied a system on your boat where you immediately find what you are looking for. You are fluent in English and ideally in Spanish as well. As a leader and manager, the people look up to you and like to engage with you, which makes you a great team player. You are a positive and optimistic person and enjoy working hard to provide the best experience to clients and owners. Finally, you don't like to keep the knowledge status quo and can show how you constantly develop yourself and your competencies as a skipper.
Appointment and Working Hours
This is a full-time appointment with days and weeks of a lot of work, especially during the months of June till September. We are looking for a candidate who has done this job before. Extra days like weekends will be compensated on a 1 for 1 basis in the off season.
Requirements
You have the proven knowledge and experience to skipper sailing yachts with similar complexity: plus 70 ft of size, hydraulic and electrical systems on deck combined with complex machinery to make the yacht self sufficient. It is an absolute MUST HAVE that you already worked for a minimum of 3 years as a professional skipper on comparable sailing yachts in the charter business. You are familiar with commercial yachts and know the MCA Cat 2 Small Commercial Vessel Coding. You are a RYA Yacht Master Offshore inclusive commercial endorsement, or similar and have a legally accepted qualification in Spain. You have a RYA Powerboat Level 1, STCW and First Aid Level 2 and Long-Range Radio certificate to meet the commercial requirements.
As the the perfect candidate you enjoy cooking and are able to jump in to help the chef and make a captains dinner. You like technologies and work with electronic tools and applications to perfectionize the operation of the yacht. Before you decided to become a skipper you have worked in various roles and have solid knowledge around maintenance of wooden boats.
