Position: Yacht Captain

Overview
We are seeking an experienced and professional Yacht Captain to lead the operation of a 100ft+ private sailing yacht, built by Royal Huisman in 2006 and extensively refurbished in 2025. The successful candidate will bring strong seamanship, leadership, and organisational skills, with the ability to manage both day-to-day operations and longer-term capital projects in close collaboration with the owners and their advisory teams. While a full-time captain would be preferred, we will consider high quality candidates looking for a rotational role
This is a hands-on role requiring a Captain who is equally comfortable on deck, in the engine room, or managing the administrative and financial aspects of yacht operations. The yacht is privately run with no charter operations planned.
Key Responsibilities
- Command and Navigation
- Lead all sailing and navigation operations, including extended offshore passages and remote itineraries. Recent locations include Alaska, Iceland, New Zealand and the Galapagos islands.
- Planned itinerary for the next 12 moths includes the Baltics, Mediterranean and Caribbean.
- Confidently manage the vessel under sail with assistance from 3+ crew.
- Ensure safe operation in compliance with international maritime regulations and best practices.
- Crew Leadership & Development
- Provide confident, calm leadership and foster a positive onboard culture.
- Support each crew member in their professional roles while encouraging personal well-being, fitness, and a healthy lifestyle.
- Lead by example with professionalism, discipline, and enthusiasm.
- Operational & Financial Management
- Plan and manage the yacht’s operational and capital expenditure budgets.
- Collaborate with the owners and their advisory teams on significant engineering, refit, and upgrade projects.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance, safety, and operational costs.
- Maintenance & Engineering Support
- Work closely with the engineer and contribute hands-on when required.
- Ensure all systems are maintained to a high standard and that maintenance schedules are followed.
- Owner & Family Support
- Plan and support family cruising itineraries and trips.
- Ensure comfort, safety, and exceptional service during family use of the vessel.
- Administration & IT
- Manage operational documentation, crew logs, maintenance reports, and communication with owners.
- Confident use of Outlook, Excel, Word, and related software for planning and reporting.
Candidate Profile
- Experience as a Captain on sailing yachts important.
- Good longevity in previous roles
- Strong record of leadership and safe command on offshore and ocean passages.
- Excellent organisational and budget management skills.
- Strong engineering understanding and willingness to work hands-on when needed.
- Interest in remote cruising and comfortable operating in off-grid environments.
- Professional, well-presented, and committed to maintaining a healthy, smoke-free lifestyle.
- Positive, team-oriented mindset with a genuine interest in supporting crew welfare.
