Summary

Magnitude are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Chief Engineer to join a prestigious 56m Sailing Yacht currently under construction. This is a unique opportunity to be involved in a significant new build project, with the position transitioning to full-time onboard Chief Engineer upon vessel delivery with full rotation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively participate on-site during the new build, working closely with the owner’s team, shipyard, and contractors.
  • Oversee engineering development including drawing approvals, day-to-day inspections, factory acceptance tests, commissioning, and sea trials.
  • Lead engineering working meetings and coordinate with project stakeholders.
  • Ensure all Class & Flag standards and regulations are met or exceeded.
  • Prepare the vessel for operation including operational procedures, planned maintenance system population, and owner-supplied equipment.
  • Prepare documentation and procedures required for the implementation of the Mini ISM within the engineering department.
  • Manage the vessel’s engineering systems post-delivery, maintaining high operational readiness.
  • Provide leadership within the project and the vessel’s technical team.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the yachting industry, with prior experience on large sailing yachts.
  • Previous involvement in new builds and refit projects.
  • Strong technical understanding of design & development and hands-on experience across yacht engineering systems.
  • Minimum qualification Y3 CoC.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).
  • Proactive, highly organized, and capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

Additional Information:

  • The role is based full-time on-site in Europe during the construction phase.
  • Post-delivery, the Chief Engineer will join the yacht for operational duties.
  • Salary and employment conditions will be discussed with shortlisted candidates.
