We are seeking an experienced and confident First Mate to join a 40m Private/Charter Motor Yacht on a relief contract, with potential to transition into a permanent role for the right candidate. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-run program with a positive onboard culture and an active, mixed private/charter schedule. The successful candidate will be hands-on, professional, and able to support the Captain in leading a safe, efficient, and cohesive deck operation.
The vessel will operate within the Caribbean over the contract period, with two confirmed charters. Will be eligible for charter tips during this period.
Start Date: 20th November 2025
Contract End: Early January 2026 (likely extension to late January based on performance and fit)
Potential: May transition to permanent for the right candidate
Salary: $5,750–6,500 (DOE) + charter tips
Skills & Attributes
- Proven experience as First Mate on similar-sized yachts (or a strong Bosun stepping up with solid leadership experience)
- Excellent seamanship, deck management, and tender-driving capabilities
- Positive leadership style, confident communicator, calm under pressure
- Hands-on, professional, and team-focused attitude
- Ability to maintain high operational standards consistently
Qualifications Required
- Yachtmaster Offshore 200GT (minimum)
- Valid STCW (Basic) – fully updated
- ENG1
- VPDSD / Designated Security Duties Certificate (preferred)
- Must hold a US passport (citizenship required)
Other Details
- MLC-compliant contract with repatriation provided
- Leave accrual at Cayman Islands minimums for contract duration
- Long-term itinerary (for candidates who may remain permanent): New England, Bahamas, Caribbean, and later Mediterranean season
