EXPECTATIONS OF THE ENGINEER
- Perform the role with enthusiasm and dedication.
- Understand it is about getting the job done. It is not about working nine to five and clock punching.
- Understand that the Engineer is responsible for ensuring the yacht's equipment and machinery is in good working order at all times by performing fixing and maintenance tasks with the minimum use of 3rd party contractors.
- Understand that respect from other crew members, credibility and seniority are earned by hard work and performing the role successfully.
- Start work punctually.
- Follow the preventative maintenance schedule and perform maintenance duties as required by the schedule.
- Fix unexpected equipment failures promptly and in the best manner possible.
- Keep the engine room and all related engineering work spaces clean, organized and in immaculate condition.
- Prioritize maintenance tasks and equipment fixes depending on what is happening.
- Plan his or her work and then work that plan.
- Work to improve the quality and accuracy of engineering processes such as planned maintenance schedules or create necessary documentation.
- Be capable of and figure out how to operate all of the equipment and systems on the boat such as engines, generators, AV, oil water separators, fuel transfer pumps, etc.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of spare parts and consumables for all equipment and systems on board for the safe and uninterrupted operation of the yacht.
- Log what he or she had done each day and to what piece of machinery or equipment.
- Keep updated daily the unexpected failure or work list.
- Complete all documentation he or she is required to do so such as oil record book or departure check lists or unexpected failure list or preventative maintenance records. To be done in the required manner and timescales specified by Class, Flag and the Master.
- Participate in the gangway watch schedule when on the dock.
- Participate in the anchor watch schedule when at anchor.
- Help out other departments when and where needed on board.
