Sailing Yacht Captain - Grand-prix sailing yacht- Brisbane

MYS is seeking a Yacht Captain for the mini-maxi racing yacht ‘ALIVE’, based out of Brisbane, Australia. The boat is sailed east coast Australia and, periodically, internationally. We won the Sydney to Hobart in 2018 and 2023.

You will report to the Race Skipper and will be supported by a shore-side team for maintenance programming and logistics.

Key responsibilities:

•Complete and report on corrective, routine, and modification maintenance tasks as required.

•Collaborate with Race Skipper and shore-support team to ensure maintenance tasks are completed on schedule and within set budget.

•Support any contractors who are engaged to perform maintenance tasks on the boat.

•Update the maintenance task list after each regatta and as each task is completed.

•Ensure all safety gear including medical is up-to-date and to the required category for scheduled events.

•Maintain a high state of cleanliness and organisation across the program’s assets (race boat, containers, sheds, van).

•Perform pre-event preparations so the race boat is in best possible readiness for events and deliveries.

•Direct and work with race crew, shore contractors as required before, during, and after events to ensure the boat is prepared and maintained to the highest possible standard. (e.g. boning sails, taking sails on/off, moving gear, HBWL divers, provisioning, pack-downs etc).

•Perform necessary maintenance tasks during events including corrective maintenance, daily cleaning, and pre/post race checks.

•Perform post-event tasks to stand the race boat down, make ready for delivery, or begin maintenance periods.
