EnquireThis food safety qualification is required by all food handlers onboard and as part of the Ships Cook CoC. It is designed, written, and presented specifically to prepare crew for the unique environment of working on at sea.
We teach everything that is required for working within a food safety management system and how all crew contribute to food safety. From Galley to Service, Housekeeping and Deck. Our tutors have first-hand experience of working onboard and will support you all the way. We also prepare you for what to expect from a port health visit.
The training is delivered using a blend of eLearning, Virtual classroom and “individual apply your knowledge” session to suit your needs.
The exam is remotely invigilated by the HABC exam board. We can book your exam 3 days after you complete your training, so please make sure you allow enough time to ensure you have your certification before joining.
Course Structure
WHAT DOES THE QUALIFICATION COVER?
Topics include:
• the importance of food safety procedures and complying with port health authority
• microbiological, chemical, physical and allergenic hazards and their control
• good temperature control and stock rotation
• the importance of good personal hygiene and preventing contamination, including handwashing, protective clothing, cuts and reporting illness
• keeping work areas and equipment clean and safe
• safe waste disposal MARPOL
• pest control
