Sub-Pilot
Salary : EUR 6000 to EUR 11000 Per Month
The Sub Pilot represents a highly specialised maritime professional responsible for the safe operation and navigation of personal submarines and submersible vessels deployed from luxury yachts. This prestigious technical role combines advanced operational expertise with scientific knowledge to conduct underwater expeditions that provide yacht owners and guests with extraordinary subsea experiences whilst maintaining the highest standards of safety and environmental responsibility.
Working with sophisticated underwater technology, Sub Pilots navigate complex marine environments, guiding submersible vessels to sites of interest whilst monitoring all technical systems and ensuring passenger comfort and security. They bring technical mastery together with naturalist knowledge to create memorable underwater explorations that reveal the hidden wonders of marine ecosystems to guests in complete safety.
Key responsibilities include conducting comprehensive pre-dive inspections, operating submarine controls during all phases of submersion and navigation, and monitoring critical life-support and propulsion systems throughout expeditions. Sub Pilots must maintain detailed operational logs, implement strict safety protocols, coordinate with support vessels, and ensure compliance with all relevant maritime regulations. They also provide passengers with informative commentary about marine environments, maintain all submarine equipment to exacting standards, and develop expedition plans based on local conditions and points of interest.
The role demands exceptional technical capabilities combined with composure and decision-making abilities under pressure. Sub Pilots must demonstrate comprehensive understanding of submersible operations, possess extensive knowledge of marine navigation principles, and maintain current awareness of underwater hazards and environmental considerations. They require both mechanical aptitude for system troubleshooting and interpersonal skills to ensure passenger comfort during what may be an unfamiliar experience for many guests.
Career advancement opportunities include progression to roles managing multiple submarine assets for large vessels or fleets, development of specialist expedition programmes, or consultancy positions for submarine manufacturers and training organisations. The position offers excellent prospects for qualified maritime professionals seeking a unique specialisation within the luxury yachting sector.
