Assistant Purser

The Assistant Purser serves as a vital administrative professional aboard luxury vessels, supporting the Chief Purser in managing the comprehensive administrative, financial and logistical operations that ensure smooth vessel functioning. Working within the interior department, Assistant Pursers handle a diverse array of administrative responsibilities that underpin the vessel's operational efficiency and guest satisfaction levels. They manage financial processes, coordinate crew administration, maintain essential documentation, and support guest services whilst ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and company policies.
Key responsibilities include processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate accounting records, assisting with payroll administration, and managing cash flows aboard the vessel. Assistant Pursers handle crew documentation, support immigration processes, maintain inventory control systems, and assist with purchasing procedures. They also provide administrative support for guest services, coordinate travel arrangements, and assist with event planning when required.
The role demands exceptional organisational capabilities alongside strong interpersonal skills. Assistant Pursers must demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, maintain absolute discretion with sensitive information, and effectively communicate across all vessel departments. Qualifications, training and skills required
- Relevant qualification in hospitality, administration or finance
- Previous administrative experience in luxury hospitality or maritime environments
- Strong financial administration and basic accounting skills
- Proficiency with office software applications and management systems
- Excellent organisational abilities and attention to detail
- Fluent English with strong written and verbal communication skills
- Understanding of maritime crew administration requirements
- STCW certification including basic safety training
- Experience with inventory management systems
