Summary
We are seeking a Chief Engineer to join a 46m expedition vessel operating in the North Sea. This contract position requires a candidate with experience in marine engineering, particularly in managing and maintaining the mechanical and electrical systems of vessels. Responsibilities include routine inspections, troubleshooting technical issues, and coordinating maintenance schedules. The ideal candidate will possess relevant certifications and a strong background in engineering, along with excellent leadership and problem-solving skills. Familiarity with expedition vessels and experience working in similar environments will be advantageous. This role is based in Norway, and candidates must be prepared for the challenges of an expeditionary cruising itinerary.
Certification:
- Valid STCW III/1 (Officer in Charge of an Engineering Watch)
- Flag State endorsement (as applicable)
Experience:
- Previous experience as Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer on similar-sized yachts or expedition vessels
- Familiarity with operations in remote or challenging environments (ice waters or long-range cruising preferred)
Technical Knowledge:
- Competent in managing propulsion systems and auxiliary machinery for vessels with low entry ticket power of 740 kW
- Strong troubleshooting and maintenance skills for mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
Compliance & Safety:
- Thorough understanding of ISM Code, MARPOL, and class requirements
- Ability to maintain planned maintenance systems and ensure safety standards
Soft Skills:
- Leadership and team coordination skills
- Ability to work closely with the Captain and Technical Manager for operational planning
Other Requirements:
- Valid ENG1 medical certificate
- Fluent in English
