We are expanding and seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer & Team Leader to guide our growing electrical department, manage complex refit projects, and mentor a team of marine electricians.
Role Overview
The Electrical Engineer & Team Leader will take full responsibility for the planning, execution, and delivery of yacht electrical and electronic projects. This role combines hands-on engineering work with team management and requires direct communication with project managers, clients, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Leadership
- Lead electrical projects from diagnostics through to commissioning.
- Manage and allocate workloads for a team of electricians/technicians.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to Yacht Watch standards.
- Technical Engineering
- Design, specify, and oversee DC/AC electrical systems (12V, 24V, 48V, 230V, 400V).
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot navigation and communication electronics (Raymarine, Garmin, B&G, Furuno, etc.).
- Work extensively with energy storage, BMS, chargers, inverters, and renewable solutions (Victron, Mastervolt, solar integration).
- Produce wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical reports.
- Conduct load analysis, fault-finding, and sea trial testing.
- Team Leadership
- Supervise, train, and mentor junior electricians.
- Uphold quality and safety standards on all projects.
- Foster collaboration across electrical, mechanical, and carpentry departments.
- Client & Stakeholder Communication
- Act as technical contact for clients, insurers, and surveyors.
- Provide progress updates, explain technical findings, and support project managers with estimates.
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in marine, shipyard, or industrial electrical engineering.
- Proven leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of low-voltage and high-voltage marine systems.
- Familiar with ABYC, IEC, and class society standards.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD/Eplan or equivalent for electrical drawings.
- Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
- Fluent English; Spanish language skills are a plus.
- Valid marine/technical certifications (STCW, ABYC, IEC, HV, or equivalent) preferred.
