Summary
Position Overview
A yacht charter operator is seeking a highly skilled Marine Technician to maintain and service our fleet of diesel-powered catamarans. This hands-on role involves diagnosing, repairing, and preventing mechanical and electrical issues on a variety of marine systems — from compact outboards to larger inboard diesel engines.
You will work on a broad range of systems including engines, hulls, steering and fuel systems, cooling systems, electrical wiring, and navigational electronics. Preventative maintenance and timely repair are critical to ensuring the safety and reliability of our guest charters.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth mechanical repairs and overhauls on inboard, outboard, and stern-drive engines
- Maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems, including wiring, batteries, and generators
- Inspect and test engines, cooling systems, and marine components to detect faults and ensure optimal performance
- Perform scheduled maintenance on all fleet vessels, including routine inspections
- Remove, replace, or repair worn or malfunctioning parts (e.g., belts, hoses, pumps, starters)
- Assist with light fabrication or modification of parts or mounting hardware as needed
- Keep clear records of work performed, diagnostics, and materials used
- Identify and address issues before they impact charter operations
- Collaborate with the operations team to minimize vessel downtime
- Be available for emergency repair response, including weekends and holidays when required
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Strong technical understanding of marine mechanical and electrical systems, including watermakers, refrigeration units, and A/C
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience servicing boats in a charter or marine tourism environment
- Familiar with marine diagnostics tools, manuals, and schematic interpretation
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision
- Comfortable working in dynamic, guest-oriented environments
- Physically fit with the ability to work in tight spaces and occasionally outdoors in tropical weather
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays, and occasional evenings
