Private Steward (Modern Butler) – Peak District
A prestigious private household in the Peak District is seeking a professional and personable Steward (Modern Butler) to join their close-knit team. This is a full-time, permanent position supporting a prominent family in their large private residence.
We are looking for someone with a modern approach to service—professional and discrete, yet personable and adaptable with a good sense of humour. The ideal candidate will understand when formality is required and when a relaxed approach is more suitable.
Key Responsibilities
Provide exceptional front-of-house service to the family and guests
Serve meals and refreshments with professionalism and discretion
Pack and unpack luggage and assist with guest arrivals
Set formal and informal tables, serve meals, and care for tableware and linens
Care for silver, China, antiques, shoes, and specialist items
Clean and maintain fireplaces and ensure logs and kindling are well stocked
Assist with general housekeeping and maintain high cleanliness standards
Perform minor maintenance checks on household vehicles and bicycles; arrange servicing and valet regularly
Occasionally drive family members or guests
Support with care of family dogs and general errands (post and parcel collection)
Assist in maintaining outdoor and play equipment.
Personal Attributes & Requirements
Prior experience in a private household or high-end hospitality environment
Confident in various service styles (silver service, tray service, wine/cellar management)
Flexible, discreet, and professional with excellent attention to detail
Strong interpersonal skills and a team-oriented mindset
Smart personal presentation and high standards of conduct
Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and split shifts as required
Full UK driving licence
Advanced DBS check required
Dog- and child-friendly
Package
Salary: £38,000 – £40,000 per annum
Hours: 45 hours per week, with time off in lieu for additional hours worked
Accommodation: Rent-free property on the estate may be available (subject to suitability; bills and council tax not included)
Travel: Occasional travel, primarily during August to a second residence
