The Mediterranean yachting season runs from approximately May to October, with peak activity from June through August. During this period, the majority of the world's superyacht fleet migrates to the Med, making it the most concentrated and competitive market for both charter guests and crew.
Where do yachts go in the Mediterranean?
The most popular destinations include:
French Riviera (Côte d'Azur) - Antibes, Cannes, Monaco, Saint-Tropez; the epicentre of the superyacht world and home to the Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show
Italy - Sardinia (Porto Cervo and Costa Smeralda), the Amalfi Coast, Sicily, and the Aeolian Islands
Greece - the Cyclades (Mykonos, Santorini), the Ionian Islands, and Athens
Spain - Palma de Mallorca (a major refit and crew hub), Ibiza, Barcelona, and Marbella
Croatia - the Dalmatian Coast, Dubrovnik, Hvar, and Split
Turkey - Bodrum, Göcek, and the Turquoise Coast
What is Antibes?
Port Vauban in Antibes, France, is the world's largest superyacht marina and the primary crew hub for the Mediterranean season. Most crew seeking Med work pass through Antibes, and dozens of crew agencies and yacht service companies are based there.
When do yachts arrive and depart?
Most yachts arrive in the Mediterranean between April and May for pre-season preparation and depart by late October or November, heading to the Caribbean, the Maldives, or shipyards for winter refit.
What about crew jobs?
The Med season generates a significant demand for crew, both permanent positions and seasonal contracts. Competition is highest for mid-season replacements. Searching early (February-April) gives you the best chance of securing a full season.
