FAQ

Can you work on a yacht without STCW 95 (2010)?

The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) is a set of international standards that apply to all seafarers working on commercial vessels. The STCW establishes the minimum standards of competence that a seafarer must meet in order to work on a vessel, and sets out the training and certification requirements that must be completed in order to demonstrate that competence.

In general, it is not possible to work on a yacht without STCW certification, as most yachts are required to comply with STCW regulations in order to operate legally. Yacht owners and operators are required to ensure that all crew members on board have the necessary STCW certifications for their position and are competent to perform their duties safely and effectively.

However, it is worth noting that the specific STCW requirements for yacht crew members may vary depending on the size and type of the yacht, as well as the area of operation. Some smaller yachts may be exempt from certain STCW requirements, while larger yachts or those operating in certain areas may have more stringent requirements. It is important to consult the STCW regulations and the specific requirements of the yacht operator to determine the STCW requirements that apply to your position.
