Updated Advanced Fire Fighting

The purpose of this course is to update the skills of advanced firefighting and renew certificate. This is required for all seafarers every 5 years, according to STCW, section A-VI/3 (paragraph 5)

CONTENT

Strategies for control of fires in various parts of a vessel in accordance with recognised procedures

Effect of water used to fight fires on vessel stability

Firefighting requirements in accordance with recognised procedures, including coordination with shore-based fire fighters

Control of fuel, electrical systems and ventilation effectively during firefighting operations

Firefighting procedures involving dangerous goods

Management and control of injured persons with regard to fire

Operational use and safety considerations of fixed fire extinguishing systems on board

Organisation of fire party to implement emergency contingency plans promptly

Typical shipboard organisation in relation to firefighting and the required composition of fire teams

Fire parties in realistic on-board scenarios in accordance with recognised procedures

Inspection and maintenance of fire detection and fire alarm systems

Inspection and maintenance of fixed fire extinguishing systems

Inspection and maintenance of portable fire extinguishing equipment

Inspection of equipment available to fire teams

Causes of fires

Typical fire investigation report highlighting key areas to be included

Factual incident report to comply with statutory requirements

OBJECTIVES

The participant will be able to:

Control firefighting operations aboard a ship

Organise and train fire parties

Inspect and service fire detection and extinguishing systems and equipment

Investigate and compile reports on incidents involving fire

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Participants must be at least 16 years of age

Certificated in Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting

Certificated in Advanced Fire Fighting

Due to certain aspects of the course being physically demanding and potentially stressful, participants will be required to confirm their medical fitness and physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement
