The comprehensive Yacht Deckhand course equips individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career as a deckhand, whether they are the sole deckhand on a smaller yacht or part of a larger team on a superyacht. Tailored for those with little to no exposure to the superyacht industry, the course covers a range of topics including industry information, general deck procedures, wash-downs, maintenance, cleaning procedures, line handling, knots and more.
Course Structure
The course schedule is designed to cover various aspects of the yachting industry over two days.
Day 1:
Introduction to the yachting industry
- Understanding your role onboard and how to add value to your position
- Code of conduct onboard
- Cruising areas
- Daywork & crew agencies
- Work contracts
- Terminology & ship layout etc.
Living onboard
- Close quarters
- Conflict management
- Social interactions
- Hygiene
- Discretion & other aspects
Job duties
- Comprehensive knowledge of yachts
- Watch duties

- Line handling, fender use, and docking
- Anchoring procedures
- Specific knots and their application

Day 2 - practical
- Washdown and teak cleaning
- Line throwing
- Splicing and ropework
- Stainless and gelcoat polishing
