A safety course which is the minimum legal requirement for all crew working at sea

If you are planning to work on a super yacht in the interior as a stewardess or chef; as a deckhand or an engineer, you will need to complete this course first.

Elementary First-Aid Training

Two-day First Aid and CPR, which is instructed in compliance with STCW Code A-VI/1-3 and consists of approximately seven hours of theory and practical covering basic First Aid and CPR in marine situations. A written exam follows the course.

Basic Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting

Three-day fire prevention and fire fighting module, which is instructed in compliance with STCW Code A – VI/1-2, including shipboard fire fighting organisation, fire and explosion elements, types of ignition, fire and smoke detection, breathing apparatus use and automatic alarm system familiarisation. Trainees will fight and extinguish actual fires using personal equipment, practical instruction taught by licensed and certified fire fighting professionals.

Personal Survival Techniques

A two-day personal survival course module, also known as Basic Sea Survival, which is instructed in compliance to STCW Code A – VI/1-1 and consists of a day in the classroom covering subjects such as emergencies, evacuation, survival craft and rescue boats, personal lifesaving appliances, survival at sea, emergency radio equipment and helicopter assistance. A written exam follows the theory part. The remainder of the course is spent in a swimming pool performing the simulation of abandon ship procedures. The practical exercises are subject to ongoing assessment by the instructor.

PSSR - Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities

This is a two-day course instructed to STCW Code A – VI/1-4 as revised by the 2010 Manila Amendment. The course covers working relationships on board, health and hygiene, drugs and alcohol, shipboard management structure and responsibilities, emergencies and safe working practices, enhanced coverage of communications, control of fatigue, teamwork and marine environmental awareness issues. A written exam follows the course.

DSD - Designated Security Duties

This a two-day course instructed to STCW Code A-VI/6-2 and is intended to provide the knowledge required for seafarers with designated security duties in connection with a Ship Security Plan (SSP). While not a mandatory part of the STCW 10 Basic training it is highly recommended for all yacht crew and rank dependant for commercial crew. This course covers all aspect of maritime security measures and steps to identify and prevent security breaches onboard inline with ISPS code (International Ships and Port Facility Code). It covers all techniques to be used in the event of an emergency and other security threats both at sea and in port.
