RYA Powerboat Level 1

This course is an introduction to boating techniques including everyday boat handling and the use of safety equipment, general seamanship, knots, stowing kit and preparing the boat to go to sea.

The course is good for children to have some tuition in the basics of powerboating, seamanship, etc. giving them confidence and interest when joining their parents and friends on a powerboat having the knowledge to be a helpful crew in preparing the boat, mooring, coming alongside, anchoring, etc. as well as driving the boat under supervision.

We would generally run our PBL1 course in our 6.5 m Redbay, Ultimate 3, providing the students the opportunity of driving a fast planing Rib giving them experience in a boat which may be similar to their parents or friends ribs or sports boats.

Course Structure

Preparation of boat and crew, boat handling, picking up and securing to a mooring buoy, leaving and coming alongside, being towed.

The course also includes some theory sessions, including basic IRPCS, Col regs, buoyage, etc.
