RYA Day Skipper

This course is for new skippers who intend to undertake short passages in familiar waters by day. It covers boat handling, navigation and skippering techniques to run your own boat. You should also have 2 days practical experience on a motor cruiser. it can be combined with the Helmsman course into a 5 day day course.

Previous experience: 2 Days afloat

Assumed knowledge: Navigation to Day Skipper shore based standard

Duration: 4 days

Please note accommodation is not included in the course.

Content: Preparation for sea, boat handling, navigation, pilotage, passage making, meteorology, IRPCS, engines, emergencies and night cruising.

Assessment: Continual training and assessment

Commercial use: When commercially endorsed qualifies holder to skipper a commercial vessel up to 24m in length in Category 6 (3 miles NDP daylight) or 5 (20 miles

NDP daylight) waters. (Cat 5 when combined with day skipper theory certificate)
