RYA Day Skipper Theory

The day skipper shorebased couse is a comprehensive introduction to navigation and cruising for inexperienced skippers.  

This course equips you with enough knowledge to navigate around familiar waters by day. A basic knowledge of lights is also included to introduce you to night cruising.

the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage

chartwork

electronic charts

position fixing

plotting a course to steer

weather forecasting and meteorology

tides

collision regulations

construction, parts and equipment of a cruising boat

emergency and safety procedures including distress calls,use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and liferafts

Useful Information

We appreciate that finding time for courses can be difficult therefore we offer this course over 8 evenings & 1 weekend - 1 evening per week 6.30pm to 9.45pm plus 1 weekend 9am to 5.30pm.
