Second Engineer - Engineering Knowledge (General & Motor)

The academy offers a programme leading to STCW ’95 III/2 Second Engineer (2EO) Certification by an engineering knowledge (EK) examination route, undertaking examinations (as required) conducted by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) on behalf of the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA). Candidates will also undertake an MCA Oral Exam. All candidates must have obtained a Notice of Eligibility from the MCA in advance of the course.

This programme is designed for candidates who hold MCA exemptions in academic subjects or who have successfully completed the appropriate SQA academic examinations (Mathematics & Engineering Drawing, Applied Heat, Mechanics, Naval Architecture and Electrotechnology), as specified on the returned Notice of Eligibility.

From 2013, candidates will also be required to undertake Human Element, Leadership & Management (Management Level) and High Voltage

Prerequisites

Minimum 18 months\' sea service (including nine months as a watchkeeping engineer officer) while holding STCW ‘95 Table A III/1 Certificate of Competency (Watchkeeper).(Management Level) courses.
