Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (A-VI /1-2)

During the course you become competent in minimising the risk of fire and maintain a state of readiness to respond to emergency situations involving fire and you will learn how to fight and extinguish fires.

You will learn about shipboard fire fighting organisation, location of fire fighting appliances and emergency escape routes, the elements of fire and explosion -(the fire triangle), types and sources of ignition, flammable materials, fire hazards and the spread of fire, the need for constant vigilance, actions to be taken on board ship, fire and smoke detectors and automatic alarm systems as well as classification of fire and applicable extinguishing agents.
