Calling all Yachting Filmmakers!

You must have captured some amazing photos on your smartphone whilst at sea, but what about those films?  Do you have an inner Scorsese, Spielberg, Coppola or Campion just dying to break out and show the world your creative filmmaking prowess?  Perhaps you’ve already captured something beautiful, creative or downright amazing you think worthy of entering and maybe even winning the yachting industry’s first ever annual yacht film festival? Well, now’s your chance!

The Adrift Film Festival, the only film festival for content creators on yachts, opens in Fort Lauderdale on October 23, showcasing video submissions from anyone (yes anyone!) involved in the yachting industry.  Your categories are:

  • Best Short Film: up to 3mins
  • Best Long Film: 3 – 10mins
  • Most Creative Film
  • Wild Card: any funny or amazing films shot on your mobile (no time requirements)

With all proceeds going to ocean awareness, in particular supporting the Bahamas in the aftermath of this year’s storm devastation, entry is by donation so please be as supportive and generous as you can!   With the film festival doors opening at 1830 and screenings starting at 1930, voting will kick off shortly afterwards with the awards ceremony at 2130 the same night.

The co-founders of this new yachting inspired film festival, Shelton Du Preez and Randi Barry have a vested interest in the industry, with Du Preez a professional filmmaker and photographer, also founder of Luxury Yacht Films and former chief mate onboard M/Y Latitude and Barry founder of Nautic Nomad, which she likens to Trip Advisor for the yachting world, previously crew chef onboard M/Y Samadhi have thrown themselves into putting this film festival together.

Their aim to simply inspire and encourage yacht crew to share their own points of view in a supportive and encouraging, rather than competitive environment.  As Barry says “Adrift Film Festival is the only platform for onboard content creators to showcase their creativity and be recognized by their peers. Our aim is to create a non-yachtie event for yachties to relax, unwind, chill, and get away from the general madness of FLIBS.”

Du Preez agrees. “What I hope to create is a community for everyone shooting out there. We have had a very successful start, with over a dozen entries in the first twenty-four hours of launching, with a variety of yachting businesses and companies asking how they can get involved.”

With the quality of smartphones such as it is, videography has become hugely popular and the yachting industry’s first ever film festival will create a creative and fun platform for those creating amazing content to showcase their counterparts.

Entries close on October 7th 2019 – visit https://www.adriftfilmfestival.com for more information.

Good Luck!
