New York Times names the owner of megayacht Serene

The New York Times has named the owner of 134-meter Serene to be Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia's deputy crown prince. Serene was previously owned by Russian billionaire, Yuri Shefler who sold the megayacht to the crown prince in the summer of 2014.   According to an associate of Mr. Shefler and a Saudi close to the royal family, Prince bin Salman had first spotted the 440-foot yacht whilst vacationing in the south of France. Interested in the megayacht, he dispatched an aide to buy the ship and the deal was supposedly done within hours at a price of near €500 million with Mr Shefler moving out of the yacht on the same day according to the New York Times.     According to an earlier article by Forbes, Shefler did sell his yacht ...

Helicopter Firefighting - The Essence of Helideck Safety

Helicopter firefighting is a specialist subject. It is very different to ship compartmental firefighting taught during STCW training and requires very different firefighting techniques. Helicopter firefighting has to be practiced physically and cannot be taught solely using PowerPoint. This is acknowledged by the MCA in its Large Yacht Helideck Safety Training Syllabus, which requires live helicopter fires to be extinguished. The MCA also demands that crew required to hold MCA Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO) or Helideck Assistant (HDA) qualifications, must have undertaken an approved helicopter firefighting course before they can perform their helideck duties on board. A frequent statement heard in reply to being asked about helideck team responses to helideck fires is, 'If ther...

Sailing Yacht A - Meet The World's Largest Sailing Yacht

Yesterday, Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko's (who owns Motor Yacht A) Sailing Yacht A, now the world's largest sailing yacht, took to the sea for a test run. She was reportedly pulled out of the German Naval Yards in Kiel, north of Hamburg, by a tugboat and eventually got to a speed of 20 knots. Her reported cruise speed is 18mph and she will hit a top speed of 24mph. She was styled by the French designer Philippe Starck, as was Motor Yacht A. Impossible to miss, she is 468ft long and has 3 mammoth masts, one that is over 300ft which stands taller than Big Ben's tower. '"The masts were built by Magma Structures in Portsmouth - just a stone's throw from another well known sailing vessel, HMS Victory, which is less than half the length of this new superyacht....

Masteka 2 Stranded at Sea!

At around 5am this morning, the $20 million superyacht Masteka 2 sent an SOS off the NSW with the Carnival Spirit cruise liner racing to the area to assist the frightened crew. Two cruise ships had to divert from their course earlier today and a rescue plane quickly travelled from Brisbane after the superyacht had lost the control of steering and started taking on water east of Port Macquarie. At the current time of the drama unfolding, there were no paying passengers, who normally, would be paying $3000 an hour.                                    AMSA spokesman Sam Cardwell said the agency had gone to attend the aid of the 37-m...

What should your CV photo look like?

Did someone say cheese? Your CV photo is so important and yet, despite so many agencies advising on this subject they continue to see bad photographs on CVs. Remember that your CV is your first sales tool. Believe me, no matter what skills your CV communicates; a poor photo will put your CV out of the running. This needs to be an intentional photo for this specific purpose. No picking photos that you're tagged in from Facebook during a great club night out where you think you look "hot" in the club with a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other (GASP! Yes, we have seen this on CVs!). You may like that photo of yourself in your graduation gown next to Aunt Bertha but cropping her out and keeping a dated photo just looks like an amateur move. And please no self...

She is estimated to cost around £200 - £500 million if to be built, but depends on the finished interior look. She was designed earlier this year but only had a price put on her recently. She features an entire deck for the owner, which would include a forward stateroom with elevated ceilings, open views towards a private foredeck, skylights, seating areas and a Jacuzzi. The deck would also have a private cinema and an office with just enough space for assistants or other members of staff. Epiphany has 5 decks in total.                Waugh says the main deck has communal areas at the back...
