PricingI started my career as a junior deckhand on-board a 92m motor yacht for over two years. Progressing to a leading hand/relief bosun position on-board a 124m motor yacht for just over a year. I decided during this time that the best way of progressing and truly understanding my chosen career was to go back to college. I studied Nautical Science in The National Maritime College of Ireland gaining a First Class Honours Degree upon completion. I completed over twelve months sea-time with Chevron Shipping and over six months watch keeping time.
Prior to my final semester of college I worked as a temp leading hand on-board an 80m motor yacht for 6weeks, hired by a Chief Officer I had previously worked with. I am determined to continue to learn and grow within the industry where I started. I have three and a half years of experience on deck and one year of experience as a cadet on-board 250+m Oil and LNG tankers, I believe I have gained a depth of understanding of seafaring operations and different vessel types over this time and I believe I would be an asset to any team that I joined.
Captained senior level rugby; played in the All Ireland League top division. Scuba diving; have dived some of the world’s top sites. Keen Sailor; I have been sailing since a young age, completing all my sailing levels in Ireland. I joined this global travelling private yacht as a temporary leading hand for six weeks while on time off from college. I spent time on deck as well as taking several bridge watches underway supervised by the Master/ Chief Officer and anchor watches alone to give other officers rest. I was driving guest tenders and undertaking general guest trip deck maintenance and duties.
I spent 12 months as a cadet with Chevron, working on Crude Oil Tankers and LNG Tankers. I spent the majority of my first trip between cargo and bridge duties with plenty of chipping & painting on deck. I was promoted to lead cadet by the Master to inspect all cadet areas once per week. My second trip was mostly on the bridge where I was given my first solo bridge watch on board 285m LNG Tanker. I was taking full navigational watches under supervision of an OOW. My final trip was on a lightering tanker doing ship to ship transfer. We spent four weeks in Sembcorp Shipyard Singapore. I assisted in navigation in the South China sea, Singapore Strait and in pilotage in San Francisco.
This was a new build and I was involved in the refit, spending six months in the Lurssen shipyard in Bremen/Hamburg, acting as leading hand/relief Bosun. My responsibilities included: finding and distribution of deck work for a team of 10 deckhands, I brought an attention to detail and a positive working atmosphere to the team. My duties extended to driving of large guest tender which included a Gold Fish, Jet engine open tender & single prop limousine tender. I was entrusted with the onboard carpentry using starboard & marine ply, designed and built shelving units, various wall mounts and stainless rail stands. I spliced & whipped all our guest on fender lines.
I joined Equanimity in the yard period prior to launch in Oceanco shipyard Holland. Equanimity was a very busy private yacht with an extremely high standard in all areas of operation which travelled extensively during my two years on board. I was promoted to deck dive and assisted in guest dive trips in the Great Barrier Reef, Palau, Galapagos, French Polynesia and Cocos Islands (Costa Rica). I drove guest tenders, jet skis and gained invaluable experience of deck products including Awlcare, Awl grip, 3M, King & King. As a lookout I was given the opportunity to hand steer through various locations including Panama Canal, Yokohama, Gibraltar Strait.
