M/Y Hakuna Matata is a very busy private yacht with a season starting already beginning of April until mid October. During my employment we were cruising Turkey, Greece, French and Italian Riviera. I was part of Navigational Watch during our transits from San Remo to Turkey and back, passing through the Corinth canal and Aegean islets. Besides of daily deck maintenance tasks, water sports activities with the guests , I was helping out the 1st mate with chart corrections, passage planning and ISM follow up in any safety matters etc. Being so heavily used the Yacht needed great attention to deck maintenance, I have good experience with GRP fairing and filling, painting, polishing, varnishing. Unfortunately this year in August the yacht was sold, and the crew were repatriated immediately after.
After completing my studies back home, I was employed on an Offshore drilling vessel as part of my needed Sea service for further advancement. As an Able Seaman my duties were daily deck work and Navigational watch in the night time with the 2nd Officer. During my contract I have gained vast navigational experience as the Vessel was sailing from the Med all round Africa to India, where the vessel was beached and decommissioned. Using ARPA, ECDIS, plotting positions on the charts, entering log info etc. After finishing my contract I went to SOF to search for a new position on a Yacht.
This was my first yacht, where I learned all about the proper deck maintenance, rope handling, tender driving. Being a Lurssen, the yacht needed the up most care 24/7. We were cruising mostly the Med, long anchor stays and a lot of water sport activities. The yacht was equipped with an Helipad, during any landing or lift off I was part of the Fire party to ensure that in case of emergency we were ready to act quickly. I finished my contract with mutual consent of the Captain so I can follow up on my studies back home.
