Hired by the Captain, I joined the vessel as Chief stewardess at the end of January to take over the interior department with no interior system in place. I had to deal with a vessel name change, hire and train my interior team of a second and a third steward, as well as assist the captain hiring the rest of the crew. All that together involved a heavy workload to get ready for an early start of the season one month later. I had to organize several big events receiving up to 50 people on board during the MIPIM, Historical Grand prix, F1 Grand Prix, and private birthdays. The vessel was shared between 2 owners, we went through back-to-back trips for the entire summer starting in March. 90% of the turn overs were completed with the departing guests still on board while the arriving guests boarded. We were 3 people in the interior dealing with the packing, unpacking, cabin turnover and meal service all at the same time. This heavy and busy schedule allowed me to strengthen my organizational and management skills, keeping my interior team always motivated. I left the vessel due to a Captain replacement and a cabin arrangement change.

Hired by the owner together with the Captain, I joined the vessel upon its arrival in Genoa coming from Miami with DYT Yacht Transport. During the yacht shipment, the Captain and I had to collect resumes without using any crew agencies to hire the entire deck and interior team. Without any handover, I was challenged by the owner’s arrival 3 weeks later having to train my crew, equip and reorganize the interior department. The vessel had a dual season program, and the entire crew was permanent. The owners lived 100% of the time on board, giving us a few hours turn over before and after the charter trips. They requested a different full table decoration for every meal (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) every day. The vessel went through 5 captains in the same year and a lot of crew turnover. It was a great experience and a lovely boat but I could not project myself into the job due to the working conditions.

The vessel had a single Mediterranean season with a summer schedule shared between 3 owners. They used the boat back-to-back from May to October with very short turn overs in between trips. We were 80% of the time at anchor, the program was busier than a charter boat, being as much family than party oriented. Our days were constantly challenged by unexpected situations, which allowed me to improve my ability to think ahead and bounce from one situation to another. I can’t thank enough the lovely high-profile owners with high expectations we were working for, because I owe them the eye for details, the rigor, and the reactivity I developed during these years.

I discovered a very unusual routine, where everything was requested at the last minute. The ability to provide a high-end service in a very short time frame was one of the main skills required on this vessel. Additionally, I also undertook the role of crew chef when the chef was at the owners’ villas around the world.
