Duration: 1 month contract +/- (until mid January)

Chief Engineer Crew member The function of the Chief Engineer role is to maintain, integrate and operate the engine room onboard this research vessel, to act as the liaison to engineers and to provide support to supernumeraries.

Responsibilities The Chief Engineers duties include, but are not limited to: Act as onboard Chief Engineer, Diesel Electric and DP. In that role the CE will: Maintain and troubleshoot the shipboard infrastructure Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements and troubleshoot issues Maintain technical documentation, manuals and policies Work with shore side support team Assist other ship departments as necessary

Qualifications

/STCW III/2 Unlimited Dynamic Positioning experience e: xperienced on diesel electric vessels Offshore experience Bachelor’s degree Diesel Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree Possess or have the ability to obtain STCW Basic Safety and Security Awareness certificates Possess or have the ability to obtain Medical Health Certificate with no restrictions as to serving as an officer Minimum of 5 years of commercial offshore diesel electrics and DP experience Computer skill set at systems administrator-level of knowledge and experience Prior experience working with oceanographic research projects at sea preferred Excellent communication and organizational skills Ability to work extended hours in occasionally harsh environments Experienced on TM Master Planned Maintenance System PSCRB Advanced Fire Fighting STCW + Refresher PDSD or PSA Proficiency in medical first aid ENG1 Passport Seaman's Discharge Book B1/B2 or C1/D visa

Desired Skills and Knowledge The successful candidate will have a broad scope of knowledge of the types of systems commonly found on research vessels, including scientific, ship navigation, etc. The following specific skills or experience are desired: SCUBA diver certification from an accredited organization

It is essential that the candidate has a very good understanding of diesel electric engines and Dynamic Positioning experience
