The Yachtmaster Coastal Practical course and Yachtmaster Offshore practical courses are very similar in the way we run them. They are both 3 - 4 days of preparation followed by a one - two day practical examination.

Whilst the syllabus for each is very similar, the Offshore candidate requires more logged sea time. The preparation time allows you to familiarise yourself with the examination vessel and area the exam will be run from, as well as polishing your skills up in time for the exam.

The exam will include an assessment of your skippering skills, boat handling, general seamanship, navigation, safety awareness and knowledge of the IRPCS (collision regulations), meteorology and signals. Candidates will be set tasks to demonstrate their ability and may also be asked questions on any part of the syllabus for all practical and shorebased courses up to Yachtmaster™ Coastal level.

Please note. Exam fees are payable directly to the RYA. Coastal: £185, Offshore: £215.

Duration: 5 days

Please note if you are booking travel after the exams, please allow time for small delays due to weather restrictions for the practical training and exam.

Cost: €1650
