Superyacht jobs, but which security training course do I need?
The STCW Convention and Code, as amended by the Manila amendments (2010) contains new maritime security (MARSEC) training requirements. All personnel who are either employed or engaged on board vessels to which the International Ship & Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code) applies require this level of training. But which course do I need to take?
Proficiency in Security Awareness (PSA) - This is a maritime security training course is specifically designed for all members of a ship crew members without designated security duties on board ship, and who do not require either Proficiency as Ship Security Officer (SSO) or Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) certification. This includes those wishing to work at sea, all ship crew and personnel engaged on a vessel or cruise ship such as engineers, technical staff, dancers, entertainers, pursers, cooks, waiters and stewards.
Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) - Maritime security training for All seafarers & security personnel, who have designated security duties under the vessels Ship Security Plan (SSP) including anti-piracy related activities. This includes former members of the armed forces, who are looking to move into maritime security (MARSEC) environment and who will require this knowledge and certification as a condition of employment. This will include those with a Maritime background who are looking to work in Ship or Offshore / Maritime Security.
Proficiency as Ship Security Officer (SSO) - Maritime security training for Ships officers who have been appointed as the Ship Security Officer, and who?have security responsibilities under the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code. Also those ?with a Maritime background looking to work within the Maritime / Ship Security sector. A minimum of 12 months experience required working at sea.
