Chief Engineer

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the safe working order of every piece of machinery on board a yacht and the ultimate safety for engine room operations. Depending on the size of the yacht the Chief Engineer will either be managing a team of engineers and ETO or will be Sole Engineer on board. The Chief will manage the day-to-day running of the team; execute planned maintenance programme as well as preventative maintenance. This position will require an extensive range of technical knowledge and although there will be a large element of administration and paperwork; the Chief is expected to be hands on. The chief will be experienced with working on yacht engines, generators, drive systems, water-makers, electrical systems, air conditioning units, servicing of tenders and jet skis. Have good ability to secure outside contractors; ordering of parts in ports worldwide and project manage.

Salary range

EUR 4000 to EUR 12000 Per Month

Qualifications, training and skills required
  • Qualifications, this really depends on the size of the vessel and their safe manning requirements as to which certificate the Chief Engineer must hold – Y4-Y1 to Chief Engineer Unlimited
  • Experienced with a variety of yacht engine types, generators, electrical systems, water makers and air conditioning units
  • Have an understanding of ISM
  • Manage and supervise
  • Good Leadership skills
  • Ability to delegate
Extra desired training
  • New build / project management experience
